Battle Oats Protein Cookies Review

Battle Oats sent me their new cookies to try. I have eagerly been waiting for the cookies to launch after being a fan of the Battle Oats bars.

First things first, I can’t believe how soft these cookies are! They literally crumble into your mouth.

Double Chocolate Cookie

The cookies is chocolately as expected but does occasionally leave a slight taste of pea protein. This is my favourite out of the two flavours and I think I’ll be purchasing a whole box!

Chocolate Chip Cookie

The pea protein taste was a lot stronger in the chocolate chip cookie and although it was nice, I think the double chocolate flavour is far better!

Oatein Brownie, Flapjack and Cookie Review

After being disappointed with my Salted Caramel Cookie, Oatein contacted me and asked if I would be interested in reviewing a sample of their products.

White Chocolate Brownie

When I opened the brownie, I was greeted with a familiar small. It smelt and tasted like white chocolate protein powder which by no means is a bad thing but I did find it a bit overpowering. The texture of the brownie was quite dense but not at all dry. I thinkย the brownie is more of a blondieย and I don’t think I’d buy a whole box of these personally.

Cookies ‘n’ Cream Brownie

The cookies ‘n’ cream brownie was quite similar to the white chocolate one in texture. I didn’t think it tasted that much like cookies ‘n’ cream but I preferred it to the white chocolate flavour. Both flavours of brownie tasted incredible when heated in the microwave.

Blueberry and White Chocolate Cookie

So this cookie surprised me. It tastes like a blueberry muffin and has re-ignited the blueberry muffin obsessed I once had. The texture is soft and crumbly like a normal cookie. I would definitely buy a box of these in future – well done Oatein, you got it bang on here!

Strawberry Cheesecake Flapjack

I have become a bit wary of strawberry flavoured protein products after previous reviews. The texture of the flapjack was nice, dense and oaty. The flavour was not too overpowering and I was thankful when I didn’t have a lingering artificial, sickly taste of strawberry in my mouth afterwards. I enjoyed this more than I expected and I would be interested to try the other flapjack flavours as I do prefer chocolate flavours to fruit flavours.

Okay, so Oatein have redeemed themselves after the disappointment of the salted caramel cookie. I really want to try the other flavours now and I have a feeling I may end up ordering…

Oatein products are available from their website hereย as well as from many other major sport nutrition websites (e.g. CSN, Protein Pick and Mix).

Sci-MX PRO2GO Range Review

Sci-MX sent me their new protein 2 go range in return for a review. All views are my own ๐Ÿ™‚

Chocolate Brownie

I was a bit disappointed when I opened the brownie as it didn’t look like a nice fudgy brownie. Nevertheless, I tucked in and well, the taste reflected the brownie’s appearance. It wasn’t awful but it wasn’t the brownie I expected. The texture was slightly firmer than I expected and the taste was sweet but not particularly chocolatey. After eating half, I decide to pop the other half in the microwave and well, the brownie improved significantly. The brownie was so much nicer heated for a few seconds in the microwave! I think that if I bought these in the future, I would save them for an occasion where I have access to a microwave.

Strawberry and White Chocolate Chip Cookie

The cookie has a very strong and overpowering taste of strawberry which wasn’t to my liking. I have heard very different options of this cookie – people either loved it or hated it. The texture of the cookie was perfect and not dry like other protein cookies I have tried. I liked the addition of the white chocolate chips but for me, the artificial taste of strawberry was just too prominent and I feel the cookie would have been perfect if this hadn’t been the case.

Cookies and Cream Oat Bake

Just like the cookie, the oat bake again had a very strong flavour of cookie and cream. The texture was firm and quite dense. I again found the oat bake tasted too sweet and artifical for my liking.

Caramel Crisp Bar

This bar was definitely my favourite. Unlike other protein bars, it wasn’t jaw aching to eat. The crispies in the bar gave a satisfying crunch and the ratio of chocolate to caramel was spot on. I would definitely recommend the caramel crisp bar! When heated in the microwave, the chocolate and caramel is simply incredible.

Strawberry Protein Milkshake

I am always a bit apprehensive about these already protein drinks but I really enjoyed the strawberry protein milkshake. It’s not a thick milkshake like you’d get in a burger joint such as Byron but I wouldn’t want it to be as they make me feel sluggish and bloated. The milkshake reminds me of strawberry Nesquik and it is sweet but not too overpowering.

Protein Coffee

I’ve never tried protein coffee before so I was quite interested to try this. It sort of reminded me of the cold double shot Starbucks coffees you can buy from the supermarket which I love. I thought it was slightly too sweet but the macros are amazing and I don’t think the sweetness would put me off trying it again in the future.

Design

The earphones are light. The rose gold against the white makes them look smart and slick. Sometimes rose gold has a tendency to look tacky and cheap but this was not the case here. The earphones have controls to adjust the volume, start/pause songs and skip songs.

Bluetooth Setup

I have to admit, I didn’t manage to pair the earphones with my phone straight away but once you’ve done it, it’s easy. I was impressed at how clear the instructions were.

Sound Performance

I usually wear my Beats headphones so I was unsure as to how the earphones would compare. To my surprise, they stood up to the battle well and I think the bass may actually be better! I have been wearing my earphones at work as when trying to code as I find it helps me to get into my bubble and removes distractions from people chatting around me. I’m not sure if these earphones are marketed as being noise-cancelling but when my manager ask if I wanted a coffee, he had to come and tap my shoulder!

Verdict

I really enjoyed trying the Sudio earphones and I’m going to continue using them. I love the design and the rose gold colour. The only improvement that I think could be made would be to make the earphones adjustable to make them tighter as this would be useful when in the gym.

Review

I like that the Nutristrength pea protein isolate is exactly what it says it is. There are no hidden ingredients on the label and the fact it’s unflavoured means that you can either have it as it is or add your own flavours such as cacao or salted caramel extract. I have found that the pea protein in not just good for oats and other sweet dishes, but also for savoury dishes. I really enjoyed the Nutristrength pea protein and plan to use it again regularly!

Nutristrength’s pea protein isolate is available on their website here,ย from Whole Foods Market, Planet Organic and As Nature Intended.

JimJams Product Review

JimJams sent me their Milk Chocolate Spread and Raspberry Jam to review.

img_7741

As an avid lover of the JimJams Hazelnut Chocolate spread (I’ve bought a ridiculous amount of jars from H&B now it’s so easy to get hold of), I was interested to see if the Milk Chocolate spread and Raspberry Jam were as good.

img_7771

Milk Chocolate Spread

The spread has the same silky smooth texture as it’s hazelnut sibling – divine. It definitely tastes like milk chocolate and I wouldn’t have known that it contains 83% less sugar. At ยฃ2.79, I think the spread is well worth it considering I’ve paid more than ยฃ6 for a jar of peanut butter before (don’t ask, I know it’s ridiculous).

Overall rating 10/10 – I have no negative comments

img_7740

Raspberry Jam

I was a bit apprehensive about trying the jam after seeing mixed reviews – one saying that it lacks flavour. I’m not sure if this person received a faulty jar because it looked and tasted like normal jam to me. I think if I was being extremelyย picky, I would say you could slightly taste that it is bit different from normal jam. I will definitely buy this flavour again though.

Costa Lindt Hot Chocolate Review

On Saturday I decided to try the Costa Lindt hot chocolate after seeing Costa had released it as part of their Christmas drinks collection. Being a massive Lindt fan, I knew I had to try it!

I’d read that the hot chocolate was a smaller size but I wasn’t prepared for just how small it was. It look quite frankly slightly ridiculous compared to the large toasted marshmallow chocolate that was ordered with it. Nevertheless, I didn’t mind as it arrived in the cute Christmas cup and I was preparing myself for a Lindt chocolate explosion.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The hot chocolate was very rich and thick. To be honest, I struggled to distinguish the Lindt flavour. It tasted like someone had tried to make a hot chocolate but used too much powder and not enough liquid. In my head I had visualised the Lindt Lindor Balls in the form of a hot chocolate so perhaps it was my own imagination which was the source of the disappointment. The drinkย was more like a very thick, dark hot chocolate.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Overall, I wouldn’t bother ordering the Lindt hot chocolate. At ยฃ2.95 and being a size smaller than their normal small size, it is very expensive. I enjoyed the toasted marshmallow Costa hot chocolate far more and I won’t be ordering the Lindt hot chocolate again.
